Why did you take up the BBA?
Why did you take up the BBA?
I did it to improve myself, to re-focus my life after a hard time. The BBA has been able to draw on my skills and my previous knowledge and bring everything together into the context of a degree which will be recognised. UTS has such a brilliant reputation that anyone that comes out with a degree from here, I think they’ll be snapped up by any employer.
How are you finding the degree so far?
It’s really intense and it can be challenging, but I must be one of those freaky people because I just love what I’m doing! I love it, I can’t get enough information. The money and finance aspects are great. With my background, I’ve done human resources and things like that, and I’ve done bits and pieces around lots of things. When you put it into the context of a degree, you can sort of bring everything together. All my skills and experience will now be formalised through the BBA.
I love the block mode, it fits in well with how I like to study – I can come here for a week, do an intense period of lectures and then go back home and study at my own time.
How do you see this degree advancing your career?
I would like to do family stuff and see how I go with that. My nephew wants to start his own business, he wants me to do a business plan; I’ve got a brother in law who’s looking at doing another organisation, and I said, “Let me get some experience through the BBA and then I can do all of this.” It doesn’t put pressure on me to just turn up to work 9-5 everyday, but I’m still having input into the community.
What would your advice be for someone who is looking at studying Business at UTS?
It’s really intense, but it’s very rewarding. In terms of practice and theory, this is the perfect place to come. It’s part of UTS anyway, to have that practice and theory together. You’re doing live projects, and I’m sure if you had brilliant ideas they would be passed up. I’d highly recommend the BBA to anyone that anyone wants to go up the ladder – it wouldn’t matter what field they’re in, the BBA will help them progress. What you learn here, you can apply in any organisation.
