Meet Anastasia Ivanova, a data analyst who chose UTS to study for her master’s degree to elevate her expertise and navigate business analytics.
Already employed as a data analyst, Anastasia sought a master’s degree to enhance her skill set further and fill in gaps in the technical foundation she gained through work experience.
It was her primary choice as a young, innovative, and market-responsive university. She considered both the Master of Business Analytics and Master of Data Science and Innovation (MDSI) programs but seeing the high demand in Australian and European markets for data specialists with impeccable communication and management skills, she decided that the Master of Business Analytics program at UTS would help her best with career progression.
“UTS is a place that fosters innovation and responsiveness to market needs. The business analytics program has been instrumental in developing not only my technical skills but also my ability to communicate and manage data-driven projects effectively.”

Practical experience and professional growth
Working on data projects with peers from the MDSI stream was her course's most challenging yet valuable experience, especially last semester.
When a team of highly skilled professionals come together with extensive and diverse work backgrounds, it can be challenging to remain cohesive as a team and agree on the approach and deliverables.
This experience also made Anastasia confident about choosing the business analytics program, as it proved once again that every data team needs a member who can interpret models to business stakeholders and share relevant insights for strategic decision-making.
A balancing act
Balancing work, studies, and personal life demanded considerable effort, but she is proud to have succeeded, graduating with a WAM (weighted average mark) of 91.06. Anastasia also met wonderful people from around the world and hopes their paths will cross again.
“Working on data projects with a diverse team has been both challenging and rewarding. It reinforced my decision to choose business analytics, emphasising the need for professionals who can bridge the gap between data models and business strategy.”
Anastasia’s journey at UTS has been marked by growth, learning, and the development of essential skills needed for career advancement in the competitive field of data analytics. With a strong educational background and practical experience, she is prepared to make significant contributions to the industry.
