Julian Peterson: from Advertising Executive to Behavioural Economist

Julian Peterson’s pursuit of a Graduate Certificate in Behavioural Economics at UTS was driven by a desire to deepen his understanding of the field. Learn how he revitalised his professional life, and balanced work, family and studies.

Julian realised that his understanding of behavioural economics, gleaned from his work in advertising, was quite simplistic. His journey at UTS deepened his knowledge and rejuvenated his professional life.

The coursework in the Graduate Certificate program was both challenging and stimulating. Julian found the assignments to be engaging, as they required him to think deeply about new topics and develop detailed analyses.

Upon completing the Graduate Certificate, Julian was eager to continue his studies and enrolled in the master’s program. He appreciated the importance of the additional modules to his work, such as choice architecture, and welcomed the challenge of exploring new areas such as behavioural health economics.

“At the end of the Grad Cert I was happy to sign up for the master - some of the additional modules are very relevant to my work (choice architecture) and some are forcing me to analyse topics I know little about (behavioural health economics).”

Balancing work, family, and studies

Julian successfully balanced his studies, work, and family life, recently graduating with his master’s degree. For the past two years, he has served as the Managing Director APAC at Dianomi moving up from Country Manager. Despite his hectic schedule, he found the coursework challenging but manageable.

An unexpected benefit of his studies was a renewed understanding of classic economic theory, which had significant implications for his career.

“The work requires application but can be fitted in around work and family life.”

Continuous learning

Julian’s journey at UTS has been transformative, providing him with new insights and skills that he can directly apply to his work. His dedication to continuous learning and professional development is a testament to lifelong education.

His story is an inspiration to those who think about further education, combining a dynamic career that highlights the benefits and benefits that can be achieved through dedication and passion.
