Florence West, Research Officer, WHO CC UTS, attended the Regional Meeting for Strengthening Midwifery to Improve Maternal and Newborn Health in New Delhi recently. This workshop was hosted by the WHO South East Asia Regional Office and supported by the International Confederation of Midwives.
Items discussed included the midwifery needs in the transition between MDGs and SDGs; challenges to midwifery in the South-East Asian Countries; strengthening midwifery policy, education, service and quality. A draft Regional Roadmap was written on strengthening midwifery to improve maternal newborn health.
Over 55 delegates from 10 countries attended the workshop, enabling meaningful discussions and group work towards a roadmap on regional objectives and strategies in SEARO countries. Being involved in important regional work leads to better and more sustainable collaborations.
