What makes the UTS Science Super Lab super?
The Super Lab earns its name by being "super" in every sense. It's super-sized, accommodating over 200 students in a single session. It's also super multi-functional, capable of hosting 12 different classes simultaneously, including biology, chemistry and physics (both wet and dry experiments). And it's super innovative - being the first of its kind in Australia.
A groundbreaking facility
Our Science Super Lab is one of only two in Australia, modelled after the renowned Super Lab at London Metropolitan University but adapted to meet the specific needs of the Faculty of Science at UTS. Here’s what makes it exceptional:
- Capacity and layout: the lab features 25 workbenches, each seating 8 students, with individual monitors that display a combination of information from the demonstrator station and the student’s own data inputs.
- Interactive learning: the lab also boasts around 60 breakout spaces, some equipped with smart boards, perfect for group discussions and student presentations.
- Advanced technology: each workstation is fitted with modern scientific and analytical instruments, electronic lecterns, and computers to facilitate a seamless learning experience.
- Maximises learning opportunities: students have the chance to observe experiments they might conduct in future courses, helping them make informed decisions about their subject choices.

A hub of modern learning
This innovative lab design ensures that students have access to the tools and technology they need to succeed in their studies, all within a collaborative and dynamic environment. We also offer off-campus learning sites to facilitate fieldwork, ensuring that you get practical experience in actual work environments.
Our computer labs are modern, accessible 24/7, and equipped with the latest mathematical and statistical software, providing robust support for student work and learning.
