Moot court and trial courts

From the classroom to the courtroom

The Moot Court is a space meticulously designed to mirror the real-life courtroom experience of the NSW Supreme and District Courts. Here, students transition from theory to practice, sharpening their skills as advocates and litigators.

The Moot Court is extensively used for:

  • practical skill development: students engage in mock-court scenarios, honing their advocacy skills in a realistic setting.
  • showcasing talent: large audiences gather to witness these mock trials, providing students with a platform to demonstrate their courtroom prowess.
  • inter-varsity competitions: the Moot Court hosts numerous inter-varsity mooting programs, where students compete and showcase their legal acumen.

The thrill of mooting: elevate your legal skills

Mooting offers an exhilarating way to develop high-level courtroom skills and in-depth research experience. In this mock-court environment, students argue complex legal questions, which enhances their ability to persuasively argue, deepens their legal knowledge and simulates real court proceedings.

Mooting gives students the opportunity to demonstrate:

  • persuasive argumentation: mooting sharpens your ability to present compelling arguments in court, a skill highly prized by top law firms and future employers.
  • legal knowledge: through extensive research and preparation, students become intimately familiar with relevant laws and precedents.
  • courtroom simulation: in moot court competitions, participants simulate appellate court hearings, analysing problems, researching laws, preparing written submissions, and delivering powerful oral arguments.

Mooting is more than just a learning experience—it's a gateway to mastering the art of legal advocacy and making a strong impression on potential employers.
