Application types and deadlines
The deadline for your application will vary depending on whether you are applying for a scholarship with your degree. If you are not aiming for a competitive scholarship, you can submit your application any time the portal is open. Keep in mind that the portal might be closed during scholarship evaluation periods.

- late
- incomplete
- without certified documentation
- do not meet English language requirements
- do not include faculty pre-assessment (EoI) process, if applicable
will not be assessed and the application will be withdrawn.
2025 scholarship deadlines
If you're applying to the research program and scholarship:
- Submit your application by the advertised scholarship closing dates.
- Applications submitted after the closing dates will not be processed. Applicants are encouraged to submit an application for the next round.
If you're applying for scholarships only:
- This option is only available if you are already enrolled OR if you have already received your offer of admission to a UTS research program.
- Submit your application by the advertised scholarship closing dates.
Application dates for domestic applicants who are seeking scholarships
If you are a domestic applicant wanting to be considered for the university's competitive scholarship, you will need to apply by the closing date.
Applications which are late, incomplete, without certified documentation or do not meet English language requirements will not be assessed and the application will be withdrawn.

CSC-UTS PhD Scholarship (China Scholarship Council)
This scholarship is open to potential PhD students and current first-year PhD students who are citizens of the People's Republic of China. Current students can use their original offer of admission in their application to apply through CSC (follow the CSC dates).
Please note that some faculties require a pre-application (Expression of Interest) submission before being invited to apply, details can be found here.
There are two programs available under the CSC-UTS PhD Scholarship scheme:
- Students who will undertake a PhD degree at UTS
- Visiting PhD students at UTS
Who is eligible?
Applicants must:
- Be Chinese citizens or permanent residents of China;
- Meet all UTS admission entry requirements including the English proficiency requirement and have either received an unconditional offer of admission to the UTS PhD program or an offer conditional on completion of their current program;
- Be nominated by your Faculty for a HDR tuition fees offset scholarship
- Be eligible to receive an Australian student visa;
- Return to China at the end of the period of study
- Satisfy the selection criteria set out by the China Scholarship Council
- Intend to pursue a PhD in one of the priority academic research areas identified by CSC and/or within the UTS Research Focus Areas.

Key areas of study as outlined by the CSC include:

The final selection for the joint CSC-UTS Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Scholarship will be made by CSC on the basis of academic merit.
UTS Application Process:
CSC applicants for the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT) must follow the below application process:
- FEIT CSC applicants are to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to their FEIT school by 08 November 2024
- The EOI assessment and selection process will be completed by 30 November 2024
- The FEIT schools will inform CSC applicants of the EOI outcome by 02 December 2024
- Successful EOI candidates are to submit their UTS admission application on the portal during the period 02 December 2024 to 15 January 2025. On your submitted application indicate that your sponsor is CSC.
CSC applicants from faculties other than FEIT have to submit an application to UTS Graduate Research School via the application portal by the CSC application deadline (02 December 2024 to 15 January 2025) once the application portal is open for the next round of applications unless advised otherwise. Please note that if you want to be considered for other scholarships then you will need to apply by the 2025 international scholarship deadlines (15 August to 15 September 2024) on this page. When applications open, apply and indicate on your submitted application that your sponsor is CSC.
CSC Application Process:
After you have followed the UTS application process and have successfully received offer letters, you will then need to apply for the CSC scholarship by their application deadline.
How to apply
For students who will undertake a PhD degree at UTS, including students who are currently enrolled in a Chinese partner university and wish to undertake the Collaborative doctoral research degree (Joint PhD Student) as inbound research students:
- Step 1 contact UTS Graduate Research School (grs@uts.edu.au) to confirm eligibility for Collaborative doctoral research degree and partner university.
- Step 2 Apply to UTS for Admission and a CSC-UTS Scholarship by the application deadline: select the CSC-UTS joint scholarship from the scholarship drop-down list, and clearly note that you are applying for a CSC-UTS Scholarship. UTS will release an unconditional offer of admission and UTS IRS scholarship offer as indicated in the international scholarship application deadlines.
- Step 3 Students who received UTS unconditional offer of admission and IRS scholarship offer need to complete a CSC application per CSC deadline. Visit China Scholarship Council official site (open external site) for more information. You can contact the CSC Scholarship Liaison officer at your university in China for assistance with your application to CSC.
The outcome will be announced by CSC per their published timeline.
