All applications for research degrees must be supported with some required documents. Depending on whether you are a domestic or international students and which faculty you apply to, additional documents may be required.
Documents that are not in English must be officially translated and copies of official documents must be certified.

Required documents
All applications must include the following documents.

Some documents depend on your personal circumstances and chosen course.
Additional documents for domestic students
You are a domestic student if you are:
- an Australian citizen
- a New Zealand citizen, or
- an Australian permanent resident visa holder.
Additional documents for international students
You are an international student if you:
- are not an Australian or New Zealand citizen
- are not an Australian permanent resident, or
- are applying for Australian Permanent Residency, but it hasn’t been approved yet.
Translating documents
Documents that are not in English must be officially translated and submitted together with certified copies of supporting documents.
Officers authorised to translate official documents into English include:
- National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters
- the institution where you completed your studies
- UTS authorised agents, and
- public notaries.
Certifying documents
The documents you use in your application must be certified to confirm their authenticity.
We consider documents certified if they are:
- copies confirmed by an authorised officer
- sent to us directly by your previous university or school
- issued via a digital qualification platform such as CHESICC or My eQuals, or
- copies confirmed by a UTS student recruitment agent
How to certify copies of your documents
We will only accept copies of a document where:
- it has been confirmed by an authorised person as true and authentic
- it has been scanned in high-resolution and colour, and
- the scan is uploaded to your online application.
How to send us certified documents
Depending on how you choose to certify your documents you can provide them to us digitally, in person or via the online application.
Privacy notice
We will take steps to verify that documents that have been certified are authentic if we believe that the certification may be in question. We will use the contact details provided by the authorised officer, or obtain them from public registers, for this purpose.
Personal information will be used to investigate any suspected fraudulent activity or other forms of serious wrongdoing, which will be dealt with in line with the Student Rules and/or the Whistleblowing and Public Interest Disclosures Policy as appropriate in the circumstances. Suspected fraudulent activity may also be referred to the police.
