Applying to study at UTS
- How you apply to study with us will depend on your chosen course.
- We’ll take into consideration factors such as your previous education, your life experience, or your cultural background where it may be applicable.

Undergraduate courses
For most students, an undergraduate course, typically a bachelor degree, is the first qualification they pursue after finishing high school.
Application to most undergraduate courses is through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC), although some courses and admissions pathways allow direct applications.

Honours
An undergraduate honours course is a research program that students undertake to extend their bachelor degree.
Completing an honours course is reflected in your qualification title – a Bachelor of Business will become a Bachelor of Business (Honours).
The topic of research and the research itself is overseen by an honours coordinator, typically a UTS academic.

Diplomas
A diploma course is a short course intended as an introduction to the course topic.

Postgraduate courses
Postgraduate courses including graduate certificates, graduate diplomas and masters degrees, are for students who have completed a previous qualification, usually a bachelor degree, in the same or a related field.

Research degrees (PhD)
Research degrees, such as a Master of Philosophy or a Doctor of Philosophy, are among the highest levels of study offered at UTS.
To study these courses you need to have completed a previous degree, often in a related area.

Cross-institutional study
Cross-institutional study refers to a student from a university other than UTS studying a UTS subject for credit.
You might apply for cross-institutional study to study a UTS subject that would complement your degree.

Non-award study
Non-award study involves a student enrolling in subjects that do not count towards a formal course at UTS.
Students undertake non-award study for many reasons, including personal interest or to improve their knowledge of an area relevant to their work.
