Entry pathway through aptitude assessment
The aptitude assessment is an opportunity for students to demonstrate their potential, and possibly secure an offer to study at UTS Science. The assessment is designed to assess your analytical and critical thinking skills. It is a general knowledge-based assessment and there is no need to study for it
Cost: Free of charge
Where: UTS City Campus
When: Monday, 13 January 2025
Who can take the test: The January Aptitude Assessment is for recent (HSC 2024 students) and non-recent school leavers who want to commence study in Autumn 2025 (commences on 17 February 2025) and who have not completed the assessment in the last 12 months. Future students should have a current application lodged with the Universities Admission Centre (UAC) and choose the UTS Science's course as their first preference.
Assessment eligibility
I have already accepted an offer for another course with UTS / with another university. Can I still sit the test?
Yes, you can still sit for the assessment and if your score is successful and places are available for your first preference course, we will make an offer to you.
Which courses does it include?
It applies to all UTS Science undergraduate courses except for the Bachelor of Advanced Science, Combined and Honours degrees.
I have taken an aptitude assessment at UTS Science previously. Can I sit for it again?
The aptitude assessment can be taken once per calendar year. So if you completed the assessment in July 2023 you can complete the assessment again in July 2024.
Assessment test
Can I prepare for the test?
The aptitude assessment is a multiple-choice computer based test for general knowledge, logic and language skills. You can’t really ‘prepare’ for it.
As it’s a computer based test conducted by an external agency, we do not have “past papers” or practice tests available.
What score/percentage do I need to pass the test?
As this is an aptitude assessment, there is no pass mark.
What happens after I register?
- Upon registration closing, you will receive an email confirmation with your allocated assessment date and time. This email confirmation will only be sent to you after the registration closing date.
- Please turn up on the allocated date and time, and bring a photo ID of yourself. Without a photo ID, you will be unable to sit for the assessment.
- If your circumstance has changed, and you no longer wish to take the assessment or are unable to attend the allotted session, please inform us immediately either by email or phone.
Can I find out what my results are?
UTS Science does not release results for the aptitude assessment.
I am not available on the days of the test – can I take the test on another date?
The tight turnaround time required for assessing the test and making an offer via UAC means we cannot have the test on any dates other than the ones published here.
I am unable to come to the test centre for the rest – can I take the test elsewhere?
We do not have supervision capabilities in place to accommodate students taking the test anywhere else or at any other time, so cannot accommodate these requests.
Assessment offer
I have recently taken an aptitude assessment, will I receive an offer?
If it is deemed that you have an aptitude for science or mathematics, and places are still available in the course of your preference, you will very likely receive an offer.
Offers via the aptitude test can be made only if UTS Science course of your choice (as specified during registration for the Aptitude test) is your first preference. If you are trying to decide between two or more UTS Science courses, they will need to be listed UAC preferences in order of preference.
Taking this assessment does not mean you are guaranteed to receive an offer from UTS Science.
When will I receive an offer?
You will not be notified directly of the assessment results. If you are successful, you will receive an offer from UTS Science.
Further details will be emailed to you (please refer to the "Important Dates" section below).
If you did not receive an offer, it is likely because there are no available places in your preference course or you did not meet the minimum requirement for your preference course.
