Classroom participation and individual/group presentations require you to speak up and present well. The only way to improve is to do it, again and again, with constructive feedback. HELPS provides a safe and supportive environment for you to build your confidence and improve your speaking/presentation skills.
Speaking support
Conversations@UTS
Conversations@UTS provides a great opportunity to practise your English conversation skills and meet new people in a friendly and relaxed environment. These online one hour group sessions aim to develop your confidence in joining casual conversations – socially, at university and at work. Come and join the discussion!
Conversations@UTS is both online and on campus!
HELPS Buddy Program
Our HELPS buddy program matches international students with UTS student and staff volunteers. Some buddies exchange languages eg. English/Japanese while others get together once a week and speak English only. It’s a great way to improve listening, conversation and pronunciation skills in an informal, Australian way!
Connect with your buddy online or on campus!
HELPS TalkFest
TalkFest is a free, fun-filled event that connects international students and volunteers to promote cultural exchange. TalkFest is an opportunity to meet other students, practise conversation skills and have fun!
Daily Workshops
We run daily workshops throughout the Autumn and Spring teaching periods on the following topics:
- Improve Your Writing
- Improve Your Grammar
- Improve Your Speaking
One-to-One consultation
Having a one-to-one consultation is an opportunity for an in-depth discussion in relation to your specific needs on an assessment. However, you can request a consultation to practise your presentation or discuss how to improve your speaking skills in general.
Mid-year Intensive programs
We are running intensive academic English programs (Writing + Speaking) in July. The workshops are free and open to all UTS students.
