What you’ll study

This program will see you complete an array of core disciplinary subjects, building your essential knowledge and capabilities in areas like law foundations, ethics and justice, constitutional law and procedure.

You'll then shape your learning journey to meet your desired career outcomes, choosing from a broad range of options and legal theory subjects such as criminology, legal reasoning and negotiation. You can also opt for an additional major in Legal Futures and Technology and complete your Practical Legal Training, meeting the requirements to become a practising lawyer in NSW.

  1. First year

    Your first year will see you complete a range of core disciplinary subjects. This will give you a foundational understanding of Australian law, ethics and justice, as well as insight into vital legal areas like contract, criminal and constitutional law.
  2. Second year

    In your second year, you’ll enhance your solid legal foundations to develop a deep understanding of a variety of legal perspectives and roles. You'll examine property, administrative and international law and learn about trusts, evidence and civil practice.
  3. Third year

    You'll conclude your core studies and begin carving your own path as you choose electives and optional subjects that align with your interests and goals. You'll engage in a transdisciplinary elective, learning invaluable skills in collaboration and cross-disciplinary problem-solving.
  4. Fourth year

    In your final year, you’ll round out your experience by completing any remaining elective and optional subjects. If selected, you'll undertake the Professional Legal Training (PLT) program, finalising your preparation for admission as a lawyer to the NSW Supreme Court.

Course highlights

You’ll get the opportunity to build crucial theoretical and technical skills across essential areas of law, including procedure, evidence and ethics. You'll also get the chance to build knowledge and hands-on experience in your desired specialty area, with optional subjects covering topics from legal technology to literature and the law.

Industry accreditation

Students who undertake the optional Practical Legal Training (PLT) within this degree meet the requirements for admission as a lawyer to the Supreme Court of NSW.
