What you'll study
In this program, you’ll undertake core studies in Communication and Media Arts and Production, establishing extensive experience in areas like digital literacy, creative project development and storytelling. You’ll then choose to pursue a second Communication major or broaden your learning with an array of disciplinary electives.
Meanwhile, in your International Studies program, you’ll study your culture, country and language of choice, choosing from Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish. As a capstone, you’ll get to pursue either (1) an international honours research project during a 12-month study abroad experience, (2) a 6-month global exchange and an internship where you complete an industry engagement project, or (3) an internship and industry engagement project with the option of a short study abroad experience (2-6 weeks).

First year
Your first year will focus on your Communications stream, where you’ll examine topics like screen story, drama production and digital literacies. You’ll finish the year with intercultural communication, which will give you a vital foundation for your International Studies. -
Second year
This year, you’ll go further, learning about documentary production and experimental media and pursuing either a second major or a broad range of electives. You’ll also commence your choice of language and culture studies. -
Third year
In your third year, you’ll enhance your knowledge of your chosen country and build advanced language skills. You’ll also continue your secondary major studies or complete more electives, which cover topics like global cinema, streaming television, news and digital media. -
Fourth year
Your fourth year will see you pursue your choice of International Studies pathway. Engage in honours research during a 12-month study abroad experience, or experience 6-months of global exchange at a UTS partner university and undertake an internship where you develop vital career skills in an industry research project. Options for shorter study abroad experiences (2-6 weeks) are also available or you can choose to complete all of your fourth-year subjects at UTS. -
Fifth year
You’ll finish your studies with any remaining core or elective Communication units. You’ll also undertake a practical capstone, where you’ll work alone or collaboratively to design, produce and market a media project of your choice.
Course highlights
Throughout this course, you'll acquire hands-on capabilities in all aspects of media production, from creation to delivery and promotion. You'll also possess an acute understanding of the culture, society and political landscape of your chosen country, as well as intercultural skills applicable across professional contexts.
