The Bachelor of Communication (Media Arts and Production) Bachelor of International Studies (Honours) is an exit-only course, available only to students who have undertaken the International Honours pathway in their fourth year of study. If you’re passionate about culture and language and fascinated by the production of film, television and other media, this course is perfect for you.
Choosing your country of focus, you’ll get an in-depth knowledge of its culture, society and language, putting this into practice in your exciting honours exchange. What you'll study
In this degree, you’ll complete a range of core disciplinary units, building your knowledge and capabilities of communication, production design, experimental media and more. You’ll also undertake a variety of Communication electives or develop further expertise through a second major.
Your International Studies will give you an in-depth understanding of your country and culture of choice. You can choose from six countries: Germany, China, France, Italy, Japan, or Spain. Then, you’ll put your extensive cultural and language skills to use as you pursue your honours studies at one of our many international partner institutions.

First year
You’ll start your degree with a range of core units in your Communications course. You’ll examine production, study stories for the screen and start your choice of second major, then learn about intercultural communication in preparation for your International Studies. -
Second year
This year, you’ll begin studying your country and language of choice, establishing essential capabilities and intercultural awareness. You’ll also continue your media studies and elect to proceed with your second major or broaden your horizons with a variety of Communication electives. -
Third year
Your third year will see you further hone your expertise in your chosen country and language, preparing for your international exchange. You’ll learn the responsibilities and techniques needed to communicate differences and continue your second major or elective studies. -
Fourth year
You’ll spend this year on exchange, getting the opportunity to put your learning into practice and immerse yourself in an entirely different culture. During this time, you’ll complete a fieldwork project under academic supervision as a part of your international honours. -
Fifth year
Concluding your academic journey, you’ll finalise any remaining core or elective Communication units. As a capstone, you’ll work alone or in a team to imagine, design, create and show a screen, sound or other media project of your choice.
Course highlights
In this program, you’ll acquire advanced cultural insights and language skills, which you'll hone further through your on-the-ground exchange experience in your focus country. You'll also become an experienced media production specialist, using your abilities to ideate, design, create and promote media for an array of purposes, industries and settings.
