Study Advanced Science

The Bachelor of Advanced Science (Pre-Medicine) is no ordinary science degree. Designed for high achievers, this program will equip you with relevant practical expertise in vital areas of medicine, such as anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, immunology, and genetics.

You'll blend research-led theory with hands-on study at UTS's world-class educational facilities, like the Surgical and Anatomical Science Facility and Hive Laboratory. This program will comprehensively prepare you for an exciting and rewarding career in a range of healthcare settings or to continue your academic journey with postgraduate medical or allied medical science studies.

What you’ll study

The Pre-Medicine major is available to students completing the Bachelor of Advanced Science. Representing your specialised course of study, this major requires you to complete a range of core Pre-Medicine subjects, including microbiology, pharmacology and immunology.

You'll also complete eight core science subjects to build foundational knowledge of areas like chemistry, anatomy and molecular biology, and four elective subjects will broaden your learning experience through exposure to other disciplines, such as law, business and arts.

  1. First year

    You will begin your program by completing the required subjects in the Scientist's Tool Kit. This will give you a comprehensive understanding of foundational knowledge and current perspectives in science and medicine that you'll need throughout your studies and future career.
  2. Second year

    In your second year, you'll begin developing your specialised Pre-Medicine knowledge by completing subjects within your major. You will also complete a transdisciplinary elective, allowing you to develop valuable skills in collaborating across disciplines.
  3. Third year

    Your final year will see you complete any unfinished subjects relating to your Pre-Medicine Major. You will also broaden your educational experience through elective subjects, which can be chosen from other discipline areas such as Business, Law and Arts.

Course highlights

This degree will help you build a comprehensive understanding of contemporary medical science perspectives and explore all major areas of medical science for disease detection and treatment. You'll blend up-to-date research with theory and practical skills in anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, genetics and more. Most students go on to become well-rounded professionals, ready for a career in medical science.
