What you’ll study

In the Pharmaceutical Sciences major, you'll get an essential knowledge of key disciplines like genetics, human anatomy, physiology, medicinal chemistry and pharmacology. This flexible program also includes a choice of three different sub-majors. The Biology sub-major develops extensive, in-depth understanding of anatomy and introduces microbiology. The Chemistry sub-major includes advanced studies in analytical and organic chemistry, while the general elective sub-major gives you the opportunity to choose biological and chemical subjects.  

You will take an Indigenous Health subject and complete a Transdisciplinary elective to hone your collaborative capabilities, then have the opportunity to acquire further specialisation through a sub-major or enhance your knowledge through electives from other disciplinary areas.

  1. First year

    You'll start your degree with your Scientist's Tool Kit stream, establishing vital foundational knowledge in areas like chemistry, cell biology and data analysis. You'll also begin your core studies, obtaining an overview of key principles and processes in pharmaceutical science.
  2. Second year

    In your second year, you'll begin honing your expertise through your studies in metabolic biochemistry, pharmacology, cosmetics and immunology, while starting to specialise in you chosen sub-major. Your choice of Transdisciplinary elective will give you first-hand experience in a collaborative environment where you'll work with a multidisciplinary team.
  3. Third year

    Rounding out your degree, you'll complete advanced core subjects, building career-ready knowledge of Indigenous wellbeing, medicinal chemistry and human health.

You’ll be exposed to both technical and workplace competencies, including teamwork, collaboration and ethics. Through both classroom and lab-based learning, you'll get the chance to become an experienced practitioner, ready to apply your knowledge of chemistry, anatomy, immunology and more to a professional environment or to undertake further study.
