Master of Philosophy in Medical Biotechnology

Undertake original research and develop in-depth knowledge in medical biotechnology.

This course is not offered by direct entry. Admission is via Course Transfer with faculty approval.

Commonwealth Supported Places

There are a limited number of Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs) available in this course, which are competitive and awarded based on merit. To be considered for a CSP, applicants must:

  • Indicate their interest in a CSP on their application.
  • Apply on time in line with CSP deadlines (it is recommended applicants apply early as applications are assessed progressively).

Eligible applicants must accept their offer by the lapse date to retain their place. For application deadlines and information, please refer to Postgraduate courses with Commonwealth Supported Places.

25% Academic Merit Scholarship

There is a 25% Academic Merit Scholarship available in 2025. Eligible students must commence a Master's or Master (extension) postgraduate course program in the Faculty of Science.

Master your research potential

Undertake original research and develop in-depth knowledge in medical biotechnology. You’ll be supported by staff who are leading researchers and experts in their field.

This course provides you with analytic tools and disciplinary knowledge, combined with creative, logical approaches to problem solving and professional skills that facilitate practical application of the science such as project management, IP management and commercialisation.

With a substantial research component, you'll develop your research skills, which can be used either in industry or as the initial foundations of a professional research career.

What you’ll study

This course contains a compulsory core of professional subjects relevant to all Science disciplines. The subjects in the core provide a backbone of skills important to a professional scientist. The professional stream has options for specialised professional skills development and is complemented by medical biotechnology study.

The second half of the course features a substantial research component, offering you an opportunity to undertake original, cutting-edge research.

This course is designed to provide a scholarship pathway to the UTS PhD program.
