What you’ll study

Medical and Health-related Sciences is one of two majors offered within the Bachelor of Medical Science degree. You'll complete core science subjects to obtain vital skills in areas like chemistry, molecular biology, data analysis, and physiology. UTS Medical Science students learn in the world-class Hive Super Lab and UTS Science Super Lab, two collaborative, tech-driven learning environments, as well as the specialised anatomy lab.

You'll then commence your major studies, developing specialised expertise in subjects such as pharmacology, medical devices, immunology, haematology, anatomy, and pathophysiology. In your final year, you'll complete a hands-on project to build valuable science communication skills. You'll also enhance your learning through four electives and have the opportunity to acquire practical experience through workplace placements and internships.

The program outline below shows an example program for the Bachelor of Medical Science majoring in Health and Medical Science. This is based on a full-time study load, which consists of four subjects per semester. Please note that your exact program may differ based on your unique circumstances, such as your commencement date, subject selections and recognition of prior learning.

  1. First year

    In your first year, you’ll complete core life science subjects to equip yourself with essential foundational knowledge in areas like chemistry, molecular biology and human physiology.
  2. Second year

    Using your core skills from your first year, year two will see you commence specialist studies towards your Medical and Health-related Sciences Major.
  3. Third year

    The final year of your degree will see you complete any remaining units for your major, as well as your elective subjects, which can be chosen from across disciplines.
  4. Honours

    Eligible students may enrol in the Bachelor of Medical Science (Honours). This honours program is research-based and adds an additional year to your degree.
