Sub-majors for IT students
What is a sub-major?
A sub-major is a 'thread' of subjects in a related field, similar to a major but shorter in length. Sub-majors are available to most (but not all) students enrolled in Engineering and IT courses and consist of 24 credit points (usually four subjects). If you're enrolled in an IT course, a sub-major is half the length of your major.
Why take a sub-major?
Rather than taking a string of unrelated elective subjects, completing a sub-major adds 'depth' to your course by allowing you to focus on an additional field of interest beyond your major.
The names of any sub-majors completed appear on your academic transcript, making it clear to prospective employers, professional bodies, other education institutions, etc. that you have completed further studies in a particular field.
