  The Bachelor of Science Bachelor of Laws (Honours) is designed for those at the intersection of law and science. This course offers a foundation in both disciplines. It is ideal for those seeking a legal qualification with a science specialisation. It also equips you with advanced research, critical analysis and communication skills that can be used in further higher degree research such as Master of Laws or PhD.

  Please note that this is an exit-only course. There is no direct admission to it. Current UTS students who meet the criteria for Honours may be able to submit an Internal Course Transfer (Graduating) application to exit with this course. Check with the UTS Student Centre.

  Learning is through full-time study, with opportunities for practical training in state-of-the-art labs, and deeper legal exploration in a wide range of electives. The course addresses the increasing need for scientific expertise among lawyers. Graduates develop critical and analytical skills necessary when making decisions as they understand the complex links between science and law, increasing their employment prospects and career opportunities in both fields.

  Career prospects are broad, spanning legal positions in science-rich industries, environmental regulation, health and safety, R&D, and intellectual property.

  The program provides full-time study for students wishing to obtain a professional legal qualification that satisfies the academic requirements only for admission as a lawyer together with a science specialisation.

  The course addresses the increasing need for scientific expertise among lawyers. Graduates develop critical and analytical skills necessary when making decisions as they understand the complex links between science and law, increasing their employment prospects and career opportunities in both fields.

  Students have the opportunity to engage in deeper study of the law by studying 76090 Research Methodology and undertaking 76040 Research Thesis. This course can be a pathway to higher degree research programs.

• Course duration arrow_forward_ios

  The course duration is five years of full-time study. For students who undertake the Bachelor of Science (Honours) the course duration is six years of full-time study.

  The law component requires attendance at 12–15 hours of lectures a week and timetable constraints may require attendance at daytime and evening classes. The science component requires attendance of approximately 10 hours a week at the University.

  2025 Indicative tuition fees for government-supported domestic students

  All offers for domestic undergraduate students are for Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP).This means the Australian Government contributes to your education costs, and you pay the remaining tuition fees, known as the student contribution. If eligible, you can defer payment through HECS-HELP, or you can choose to pay your fees upfront each session.

  English proficiency; Mathematics; and Science.

• Professional recognition arrow_forward_ios

  This course satisfies the requirements for admission to the Supreme Court of NSW as a lawyer, provided students complete a practical legal training program, such as the Graduate Certificate in Professional Legal Practice (C11232).

  Depending on the science specialisation and subjects chosen, graduates may be eligible for admission to the relevant scientific professional organisation.
