  What sets this course apart is the unique blend of engineering principles with medical science, offering a choice of majors to tailor your expertise. Gain engineering knowledge alongside specialised medical science insights in areas like pathology or health sciences.

  This double degree equips you for an exciting range of professions from research and development, writing and implementing policy and practice in the medical and health sciences, to working in industry, government, and the innovation sector.

  You will acquire practical skills, applying and investigating scientific approaches in world class laboratories with up-to-date scientific technologies and equipment in line with those used in the industry. The engineering component will ground you in technical know-how and professional practice. Develop competencies in communication, problem-solving, and teamwork, ensuring you're industry-ready.

  Teaching combines theory with hands-on experience, fostering a direct link between classroom learning and real-world application. This efficient pathway allows you to earn two qualifications in a reduced timeframe, positioning you to make a significant impact in diverse professional settings.

  A strong professional focus ensures graduates of this course learn the skills employers want with a solid link between theory and practice and the benefits of hands-on experience. Students explore and investigate the human body's structure, function and disease processes at the cellular and whole organ level. In the engineering program students build strong foundations in engineering theory, technical expertise and knowledge of professional practice. The course provides the knowledge and skills for students to be excellent medical scientists and engineers, who can make a difference to society in a range of careers.

  This combined degree can be completed in less time than would be required to complete the two degrees separately.

  This course is offered over five years full time, 10 years part time, or six years full time with honours.

  Full-time attendance involves approximately 24 hours each week at the university, which allows a full stage of the course to be completed in one session. Part-time attendance involves approximately 12 hours each week at the university, which allows a full stage to be completed in one year. It is expected that employers will release part-time students for at least one half-day a week for attendance at classes.

  Applicants must have completed an Australian Year 12 qualification, Australian Qualifications Framework Diploma, or equivalent Australian or overseas qualification at the required level.

  Eligibility for admission does not guarantee offer of a place.

  2025 Indicative tuition fees for government-supported domestic students

  All offers for domestic undergraduate students are for Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP).This means the Australian Government contributes to your education costs, and you pay the remaining tuition fees, known as the student contribution. If eligible, you can defer payment through HECS-HELP, or you can choose to pay your fees upfront each session.

  Indicative first-year tuition fee:  $9,314.00

  Indicative total tuition fee:  $50,379.11 

  Additional Costs 

  Your tuition fees do not include: 

  • The Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF), which supports student services and activities. If eligible, you can defer this fee using SA-HELP.
  • Textbooks, materials, and other course-related costs.
  • Any applicable payment processing fees (e.g., credit card surcharges).

  • The indicative tuition fees above are based on full-time study (1 year = 48 credit points).
  • Your actual fees depend on the year you enrol, your study load and the subjects you choose. Some subjects fall into different student contribution bands.

  Inherent requirements are academic and non-academic requirements that are essential for successfully completing a course at UTS. You can find the inherent requirements for your course via the inherent requirements directory.

• Assumed knowledge arrow_forward_ios

  HSC Mathematics Extension 1; Physics; and English Standard. English Advanced is recommended.

  For the Chemical Process and Civil Engineering majors, Chemistry is recommended. For the Software Engineering major, a sound knowledge of the fundamentals of programming is recommended.

• Professional recognition arrow_forward_ios

  The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), majoring in Biomedical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Data Science Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Flexible Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, or Software Engineering is fully accredited by Engineers Australia at the level of Professional Engineer and is recognised internationally by signatories to the Washington Accord. Chemical Processing Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Renewable Energy Engineering are provisionally accredited with Engineers Australia, pending full accreditation.

• Recognition of prior learning arrow_forward_ios

  Students who have previously undertaken relevant study at a recognised tertiary education institution may be eligible for recognition of prior learning (RPL) if the subjects completed are deemed by the faculty to be equivalent to subjects in the student's course. Subjects completed as part of a qualification in which study ceased no more than 10 years prior to the student's first semester in the relevant UTS Engineering degree may be considered. Limits apply to the number of credit points of RPL granted.
