Package Offer

International students who do not meet the admission requirements for the Master of Project Management, but are eligible for the Graduate Certificate in Project Management will be issued with a package offer for both courses. The total duration to complete both the Graduate Certificate in Project Management and the Master of Project Management as a package is 1.5 years.

Commonwealth Supported Places

There are a limited number of Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs) available in this course, which are competitive and awarded based on merit. To be considered for a CSP, applicants must:

Indicate their interest in a CSP on their application.
Apply on time in line with CSP deadlines (it is recommended applicants apply early as applications are assessed progressively).

Students in the Master of Project Management complete foundation subjects and then select from a range of advanced project management electives. Students may focus all electives on extending their project management expertise, or may elect to complete a specialist sub-major in one of four disciplines:

Property Development

UTS’s Master of Project Management is accredited by the Project Management Institute (PMI), the Royal Society of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), and is endorsed by the Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM). It is the first Australian program to be accredited by PMI’s Global Accreditation Centre. The foundation subjects are compatible with the structures used by the PMI and Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM) to certify practitioners.

UTS delivers most of the postgraduate project management subjects in intensive block workshops. These workshops offer an immersive experience where students work with their peers in a team-based, simulated project environment.

Course aims

The UTS Master of Project Management aims to equip graduates with the skills and attributes required for professional project management practice and leadership. The foundation of the course provides project management knowledge that students build upon to customise their learning to suit their background and career goals. The course aims to develop students as reflective project management practitioners with the ability to adapt and improve practice. The communication, leadership and interpersonal abilities that are crucial for managing projects successfully are emphasised throughout the course. In addition, the course aims to develop skills in academic literacy and enquiry, critical analysis, and systems thinking to develop graduates who are lifelong learners and responsible practitioners.

Course duration

The course is offered on a one-and-a-half-year, full-time or three-year, part-time basis. Because the intensive workshops are widely spaced throughout the year, many students choose to accelerate the part-time master's program and complete it within two years.

To be eligible for admission to this course, applicants must meet the following criteria.

Applicants must have one of the following:

Completed UTS Graduate Certificate in Project Management, UTS Graduate Diploma in Project Management, or UTS Graduate Diploma in Construction Management

Completed Australian bachelor's degree or higher qualification, or overseas equivalent AND A minimum of 1 year full-time, or equivalent part-time, relevant professional experience.

Applicants who do not meet the criteria above should consider applying for C11005 Graduate Certificate in Project Management.

Supporting documentation to be submitted with the application

For applicants who need to demonstrate work experience:

Curriculum Vitae AND Statement of service in one of the following formats:
- A 'Statement of Service' provided by the employer
- A completed 'UTS statement of service’ signed by the employer
- A statutory declaration confirming work experience (for Australian Residents only)
- An official letter from the applicant’s accountant or solicitor on their company letterhead confirming the applicant’s work experience or engagement with the business, duration of operations, and the nature of the business
- A business certificate of registration in original language and English (e.g. provision of ASIC documentation or ABN or similar documentation for Australian Businesses)

The English proficiency requirement for international students or local applicants with international qualifications is: IELTS Academic: 6.5 overall with a writing score of 6.0; or TOEFL iBT: 79-93 overall with a writing score of 21; or AE5: Pass; or PTE: 58-64 with a writing score of 50; or C1A/C2P: 176-184 with a writing score of 169.

International students

Visa requirement: To obtain a student visa to study in Australia, international students must enrol full time and on campus. Australian student visa regulations also require international students studying on student visas to complete the course within the standard full-time duration. Students can extend their courses only in exceptional circumstances.

Inherent requirements

Recognition of prior learning

Exemptions of up to 24 credit points may be given for equivalent prior learning. Applicants with a four-year degree in a related field of study may be given up to 24 credit points of exemptions.

Articulation with UTS courses

This course is part of an articulated program comprising the Graduate Certificate in Project Management (C11005), the Graduate Diploma in Project Management (C07004) and the Master of Project Management. Each stage is self-contained and can be undertaken through part-time or full-time study.

The graduate diploma is offered as an exit point for students who do not wish to go on to complete the master's degree but who otherwise finish with 48 credit points. Direct entry to the graduate diploma is not available.

Articulation from the graduate certificate to the Master of Project Management is allowed with the approval of the course director.
