Overview
The Transgrid Indigenous Scholarship for Engineering and Information Technology aims to support Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent students who have the personal potential and commitment to study engineering.
The Scholarship is supported by Transgrid Australia who is committed to increasing positive education and employment outcomes and creating opportunities for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander People.
Who is eligible?
To be eligible for the Scholarship, an applicant must meet all of the following criteria:
Be of Australian Aboriginal and/or TorresStrait Islander descent and provide either:
a Confirmation of Aboriginality from a Local Aboriginal Land Council or other Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander organisation; or
a UTS Statutory Declaration form accompanied by two written references from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people from the applicant’s community who can confirm their identity and are not an immediate family member; and
- Be enrolled full-time in the first or second year of Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Diploma in Professional Engineering Practice, combined Engineering degree, or Bachelor of Information Technology, Bachelor of Computing Science (Honours), combined IT degree at UTS;
- Students commencing first year: An ATAR (or equivalent) of 69 or above, or have received an offer through the Jumbunna Pathways Program, or have completed an UTS College Diploma;
- Students commencing second year: achieved a minimum of Pass average (WAM 50+ per session) in first year;
- All applicants must apply using the UTS online Scholarship Application form to be eligible.
- All applicants must be able to attend an interview in person (either Face-to- Face or via Zoom).
Selection process
As demonstrated in the scholarship application and interview:
- Academic merit (based on ATAR or relevant UTS entry criteria or WAM in the first year of studies)
- Motivation and commitment to succeed in their undergraduate Engineering or IT course.
- Initiative and leadership potential as evidenced in extra-curricular and non-academic activities.
- How the Scholarship will increase the ability of the Recipient to complete their UTS course at a higher level of performance than would otherwise be the case.
