This prize was initially established in 2004 by donations from friends and colleagues of Patricia Mary Lance, MBE. Additional funds were contributed to the prize from Neryla Jolly in 2012 on her retirement after over 40 years of service to orthoptic education and at that time the name of the prize was changed. This prize is awarded annually to the student with the highest aggregate mark in the Master of Orthoptics course.

Who is eligible?
The recipient must:
- Have been a registered full-time postgraduate student in the Masters of Orthoptics in the year for which the award is made; and
- Be eligible for registration with the Australian Orthoptic Board.
Selection process
- The Recipient must have obtained the highest aggregate mark of all students in the course satisfying the eligibility criteria.
- In the event that two or more eligible students have the same highest final mark, the Prize will be split between the Recipients.
