Up to ten (10) recipients  will receive a discount of fifty percent (50%) on their respective Scape Rental Accommodation Fees for the duration of the scholarship.

Overview

The Scape Accommodation Scholarship has been established to support UTS students experiencing financial and/or other educational disadvantages to gain access to subsidised and affordable housing for 12 months following the Scholarship being awarded.

Preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate financial hardship at the time of award.

Who is eligible?

  • Apply by the published deadline using the Scape Accommodation Scholarship application form; and
  • Be:
    • an Australian or New Zealand citizen; or 
    • the holder of an Australian permanent resident visa or permanent humanitarian visa; or
    • Have temporary asylum seeker or refugee residence status and hold a Temporary Protection Visa (subclass 785), or Safe Haven Enterprise Visa (subclass 790), Bridging Visa A - E and has made an application for a Protection Visa [1] or Temporary Humanitarian Concern Visa (subclass 786).
  • Be commencing or continuing into one of the following courses in the session following selection: 
    • A UTS undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree; or 
    • The Jumbunna UNISTART program; or 
    • A UTS postgraduate research degree; and 
  • Be enrolled or intending to enrol full-time in the Autumn session proceeding award;
  • To enter into a Rental Tenancy Agreement with Scape that complies with the requirements set out in clause 4;
  • Be able to demonstrate one of the following:
    • Apply through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) for an Equity Scholarship or the Educational Access Scheme and therein demonstrate financial disadvantage and/or other education barriers;[2] or
    • Be relocating or planning to relocate from an outer regional, remote or very remote area in Australia  as determined by Rural, Remote and Metropolitan Area (RRMA) classification tool. 


 


[1] Applicants holding an Australian Bridging Visa A - E will be required to provide a statement and/or letter from a community organisation verifying the applicant’s experience of an asylum-seeker.

[2] Language Difficultly will not be considered for the purposes of scholarships selection

Selection process

As demonstrated in the scholarship application:

  • Evidence of financial need and/or other educational barriers as assessed by the UAC Equity Scholarship Application or the Educational Access Scheme and may include:
    • Regional or remote background 
    • Sole parent responsibilities 
    • Carer responsibilities 
    • Long-term medical condition/disability or ongoing effect of abuse 
    • Indigenous Australian 
    • Refugee status 
    • Experienced educational disruption and/or personal hardship
  • Motivation to succeed in an eligible UTS course
  • Evidence the scholarship would assist the student performance at a higher level than would be the case

Preference may be given to applicants (In priority order):

  • One or more educational disadvantages and financial hardship; or
  • Financial Hardship only; and/or
  • On the basis of academic merit (as the basis of admission into their chosen UTS course or WAM in the current course).
