Bachelor of Computing Science Honours
What is a Bachelor of Computing Science (Honours)?
Computing science is the study of computers and computational systems, how they work, what their limitations are, and ultimately how to use computation to develop new, effective solutions to important, complex, and complicated problems.
This degree focuses on the in-depth and research oriented curriculum of computers and computational systems compared to a standard bachelor's degree in computing science.
Computing Science is at the forefront of cutting edge research and industrial applications such as robotics, artificial intelligence, quantum computing and more.
What you’ll learn
You’ll develop a strong grounding in fundamental computer science. In years three and four of the course, you’ll also develop research skills through specialist subjects, culminating in an honours project in your final year of study. The Honours component is a one-year, research-based program devoted to a project. It’s a unique opportunity for you to explore research opportunities at UTS as part of your career.
You will develop the ability to theorise, design, develop and apply computing and software for advanced programs. You will also attain advanced cognitive, technical and communication skills required for a highly rewarding career. You will gain opportunities to work in research, and open pathways to embark on a PhD.
Career Options
You will have diverse career opportunities locally and internationally across a range of industries, including science, health, engineering, finance, transport and telecommunications. You can work as a;
- Data scientist
- Artificial Intelligence expert
- Machine learning specialist
- Software designer
- Web developer
- Interface designer
- Information systems manager
- Network manager
- Systems engineer
- Security operations specialist
- Professional computing science researcher
- Cybersecurity Analyst
