With a Bachelor of Music and Sound Design, you’ll translate your passion into practice and prepare for a career in the contemporary sound industry.
Join a program that's the first of its kind to combine the domains of music, sound and screens (film, TV, internet, games, online). With our hands-on approach, you’ll test musical theory and new ideas in the studio, whilst learning to critically revise your own work.
You’ll also study a course curriculum that’s shaped by industry which means the skills you gain — artistic, professional and theoretical — will set you up for a career as a working musician or producer.
Cross-disciplinary collaboration You'll have the opportunity to create innovative multimedia content alongside students from a number of disciplines across UTS, including animation, games design, journalism and media arts and production. These collaborations will give you a first-hand insight into what it's like to work as a music or sound professional.
Internship opportunities Go beyond the classroom by completing a professional internship as part of your degree. With exclusive partnerships at organisations such as Animal Logic, you'll gain hands-on experience in an area you're passionate about. Read articles on internships and placements written by FASS students.
Real-world learning Thanks to our authentic approach to learning, you'll develop the music business skills required to become a creative entrepreneur. In your final year, you'll collaborate with members of your cohort to create a record label. From signing and recording artists to organising a launch party, you'll find out what it takes to be a music business professional.
Specialised skills You'll graduate with the technical skills and expertise required to pursue work in contemporary music, sound and digital media industries. In studio-based subjects, you'll get access to industry-standard technologies and facilities, where you'll learn extensive production techniques.
Produce a portfolio Through practice-based assessments, you'll develop a portfolio of sound, music and multimedia works to show to future employers. Explore some examples in our student work showcase.
Industry input You'll be taught by academics who are internationally recognised for their work in the industry. Plus, you'll be invited to attend guest lectures by leading professionals in the music and sound industries.
Diversify your skillset You can broaden your employability by completing Communication electives. We offer a diverse range of options to suit your interests, from environmental, gender or film studies, to design thinking and digital media. What the students say
Music and Sound Design at UTS offered the opportunity to learn from creative professionals currently working in their fields, and gain access to high quality, industry-standard equipment and software, all while being immersed in an authentic university experience. Being able to meet students outside of the Music and Sound Design course was also an invaluable resource that challenged and expanded my way of thinking.
