Luke: My career goal is to become a hospital pharmacist and I was actually recently successful in obtaining a internship at a busy Sydney hospital and I believe UTS pharmacy equipped me with the skills that I need and the exposure through the clinical placement program to secure that job.
Emily: I've been able to do quite a bit of clinical placement. I spent two blocks in the hospital setting. One was at a large rural Hospital up north and another one was at a small Metropolitan Hospital. I was able through those placements to work as part of an interdisciplinary team, so with the doctors and the nurses, and a whole host of other allied health professionals, and really see how patients are cared for in the hospital setting. And then spent two blocks in the community setting where I was able to work learn about dispensing, counselling patients, and really working closely with regular customers that come in through the pharmacy. So all that placement really helped me in securing my internship for next year which I'll be doing at a large teaching hospital in Melbourne and I'm really looking forward to that.
Luke: My one piece of advice for future students would be to really involve yourself in the pharmacy world during your studies. Get involved in student representative bodies and counselling competitions, to not only broaden your knowledge but broaden your skills to differentiate you as a pharmacist of the future.
