  The Bachelor of Medical Science Bachelor of Laws (Honours) is designed for those interested in the nexus of law and medical science. It satisfies the academic requirements for admission as a lawyer as well as a specialisation in medical science, with majors in Medical and Health-related Sciences or Pathology. This course also equips you with advanced research, critical analysis and communication skills that can be used in further higher degree research such as Master of Laws or PhD.

  Please note that this is an exit-only course. There is no direct admission to it. Current UTS students who meet the criteria for Honours may be able to submit an Internal Course Transfer (Graduating) application to exit with this course. Check with the UTS Student Centre.

  Learning is through full-time study, with opportunities for deeper legal exploration in a wide range of electives and practical learning in state-of-the-art labs. You will acquire the skills to navigate and influence the evolving landscape of medical science within the legal framework, enhancing your career prospects in a variety of dynamic roles.

  Graduates are well-positioned for careers in legal practice with a biomedical focus, health administration, and policy development, with the option to pursue advanced research.

  The program provides full-time study for students wishing to obtain a professional legal qualification that satisfies the academic requirements only for admission as a lawyer together with specialisation in medical science.

  The course addresses the increasing need for medical science expertise among lawyers. Graduates develop critical and analytical skills inherent to an understanding of the complex links between medical science and the law, thus increasing their employment opportunities and career choices. Students have the opportunity to engage in deeper study of the law by studying 76090 Research Methodology and undertaking 76040 Research Thesis. This course can be a pathway to higher degree research programs.

• Course duration arrow_forward_ios

  The course duration is five years of full-time study. Students who undertake the Bachelor of Medical Science (Honours) (C09031) complete the course in six years of full-time study.

  The law component requires attendance at 12–15 hours of lectures a week and timetable constraints may require attendance at daytime and evening classes. The science component requires attendance of approximately 10 hours a week at the university.

  2025 Indicative tuition fees for government-supported domestic students

  All offers for domestic undergraduate students are for Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP).This means the Australian Government contributes to your education costs, and you pay the remaining tuition fees, known as the student contribution. If eligible, you can defer payment through HECS-HELP, or you can choose to pay your fees upfront each session.

  This course satisfies the requirements for admission to the Supreme Court of NSW as a lawyer, provided students complete a practical legal training program, such as the Graduate Certificate in Professional Legal Practice (C11232).
