Our group studies women’s cancers, with a main focus on ovarian cancer. Ovarian cancer is classified as a low survival cancer as only 46% of women are alive 5 years after being diagnosed. Reasons for this include the development of resistance to chemotherapy and the often late diagnosis of this malignancy. We use cell and molecular biology techniques to better understand the ovarian cancer genome, epigenome and pathways that contribute to ovarian cancer and drug resistance.
To this end, we collaborate broadly with other cancer scientists, surgeons, oncologists and pathologists, as well as are developing collaborations with engineers to establish three dimensional bio-printing for ovarian cancer cells at UTS. We have strong links with the Kolling Institute Tumour Bank based at Royal North Shore Hospital and an interest in bio-banking patient specimens for research purposes.
