Our research is focused toward the use of stem cells to advance translational clinical applications. Particularly in regenerative medicine for degenerative and developmental diseases.
With the growing global move toward P4 medicine (Predictive, Preventive, Personalized and Participatory) our research contributes to the understanding of repairing human tissue and organs using a person’s own stem cells. As well as understanding diseases by unravelling their fundamental mechanisms will allow for targeted and personalised treatments. This permits the development of advanced diagnostics for early detection and therapeutic intervention.
Current research projects use adult stem cells and biomaterials for 3D printing cellular environments. This combination is used for development models for research in repair mechanisms in neural, bone, cartilage, skeletal muscle and heart muscle cells. As well as in development of treatments for diseases such as multiple sclerosis, Allan-Herndon-Dudley syndrome, schizophrenia, Alzheimer's, Parkinson’s, osteoarthritis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, bone and muscle trauma.
