The Translation Airways Group investigates why airways and lungs do not function properly in people with diseases such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and interstitial lung disease, and in people with obesity. The group uses animal models of lung disease, complex measures of lung function and advanced lung imaging to understand the development and progression of respiratory diseases, and how patients respond to different treatments.
The Translation Airways Group also investigates the way in which reduced lung function may impact on other diseases such as reduced heart function and poor sleep quality. The Translation Airways Group’s research program aims to provide novel approaches to detect early disease in order to improve long-term benefits, better characterise patients to allow more specific treatment and develop novel strategies to improve lung function in patients with severe disease.
