Swimming Pool Assessments, Compliance and Safety Awareness

This swimming pool assessments and compliance course focuses on NSW swimming pool legislation. Learn how to assess and inspect new and existing swimming pools; issue swimming pool compliance certificates; and develop a swimming pool inspection program.

This course is designed for A1 – A3 certifiers, accredited certifiers, council staff and swimming pool installers who are looking to develop their understanding of NSW swimming pool legislation.

NOTE: Attendance at this course does not satisfy the requirements for the Building Professionals Board proposed accreditation category E1 swimming pool certifier. If you are seeking training as an E1 Certifier see the NSW Fair Trading website for accredited training providers.

Course content

The following content will be covered in this swimming pool assessments and compliance course:

  • Background to legislation changes.
  • Swimming Pools Act 1992, amendments and regulations.
  • Relevant Standards and Australian Standards.
  • Role of the BPB.
  • Step-by-step guide to issuing a Swimming Pool Compliance Certificate.
  • Implementing a swimming pool inspection program.
  • Overview of the process from start to finish.
  • Exempt development criteria, complying development certificates, and BASIX.

Learning outcomes

At the completion of this swimming pool assessments and compliance course you will:

  • Gain an in depth understanding of NSW swimming pool legislation.
  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of council and accredited certifiers in swimming pool barrier compliance.
  • Gain the skills and confidence to assess and inspect new and existing swimming pools.
  • Develop processes and procedures to issue swimming pool compliance certificates and develop a swimming pool inspection program.

Delivery style

This swimming pool assessments course will be delivered online (via Zoom) - a reliable internet connection is required. Video connection details and teaching materials will be made available to participants prior to the course.

About the presenters 

Stephen Krimmer

Stephen Krimmer has held senior positions in academia, local government and the private sector for over two decades. Stephen’s expertise includes planning, sustainability and development assessment. His passion for strategic and sustainable planning outcomes is demonstrated in his planning roles and his development and delivery of training courses across NSW.

For the past decade, Stephen has devoted his time equally between academia and working within the planning sector and is regular presenter at UTS IPPG. Stephen also develops and delivers bespoke training courses for government and non-government organisations including Sydney Trains and regularly speaks at state-wide conferences.

Stephen has University qualifications in Environmental Health majoring in planning and building, as well as qualifications in Training and Assessment and Carbon Management. Stephen’s relevant roles have included; Senior Sustainability Planner, Supervisor of Development Assessment Team and Presenter of professional development programs at UTS IPPG.

 

Kate Stoner

Kate Stoner is an Accredited Certifier with 16 years of Local Government experience. Kate has been training council officers and accredited certifiers for UTS since 2010. Kate has been awarded the prestigious AIBS Building Surveyor of the Year award and has been awarded for her educational contributions to industry on swimming pool legislation. Kate has been an expert witness on five Land & Environment Court Cases relating to swimming pool legislation.

This swimming pool assessments course has no prerequisites and is open to all members of the public.
