  This course is designed for professionals seeking to transition into construction management, particularly from other built environment sectors, aiming to broaden their skill set. Choose this course to enhance your career prospects in a variety of management roles within the construction industry, including project, site, and facility management, as well as quantity surveying and cost engineering.

  What sets this course apart is its integration of traditional project management principles with cutting-edge technology and an understanding of human factors essential for effective leadership in construction. You will learn from the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK®) applied specifically to construction, covering technology, regulations, time, cost, quality, risk, ethics, industrial relations, and contract administration.

  You will gain practical management skills, underpinned by theoretical knowledge and supported by case studies from industry experts. The course offers hands-on experience with digital tools such as estimating software, programming, and Building Information Modelling (BIM). Additionally, you will develop competencies in contract administration, integrated project delivery, and stakeholder management, with the opportunity to specialise in an elective of your choice.

  Teaching methods include a blend of academic and practitioner-led sessions, ensuring learning is grounded in real-world construction practices. Interactive digital platforms provide a practical learning experience, preparing you for the dynamic nature of construction management.

  The course aims to provide graduates with management skills relevant to the operation of construction projects. The course utilises concepts associated with the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK®) as applied in the construction context. Key areas of construction management are covered in the course including: construction technology and regulations; time, cost and quality management; risk; professional ethics; industrial relations; communication; and contract administration. Student learning establishes underpinning construction management theory that is strongly supported by best practice case studies delivered by leading academics and practitioners, giving students access to relevant, real-world expertise that reflects the realities of today's construction sector. Through the use of digital technologies students receive hands-on experience with real-world estimating, programming and building information modelling (BIM) platforms. Students gain further knowledge in contracts administration, integrated project delivery, and communication and stakeholder management with the option to build specialist knowledge in a chosen elective subject.

  To be eligible for admission to this course, applicants must meet the following criteria.

  Applicants must have one of the following:

  • Completed UTS Graduate Certificate in Construction Management

  OR

  • Completed Australian bachelor's degree or higher qualification, or overseas equivalent AND A minimum of 1 year full-time or equivalent part-time, relevant professional experience AND An interest in the course and demonstrated understanding of the opportunities present in Construction Management AND A general capacity to undertake tertiary education, demonstrated by successful completion of general or professional qualifications

  OR

  • A minimum of 5 years full-time or equivalent part-time, relevant professional experience AND An interest in the course and demonstrated understanding of the opportunities present in Construction Management AND A general capacity to undertake tertiary education, demonstrated by successful completion of general or professional qualifications

  Supporting documentation to be submitted with the application

  For applicants who need to demonstrate work experience:

  • Curriculum Vitae AND Statement of service in one of the following formats:
    • A 'Statement of Service' provided by the employer
    • A completed 'UTS statement of service’ signed by the employer
    • A statutory declaration confirming work experience (for Australian Residents only)
    • An official letter from the applicant’s accountant or solicitor on their company letterhead confirming the applicant’s work experience or engagement with the business, duration of operations, and the nature of the business
    • A business certificate of registration in original language and English (e.g. provision of ASIC documentation or ABN or similar documentation for Australian Businesses)

  As a postgraduate student, you'll be responsible for covering your own tuition fees.

  2025 Tuition Fee

  • Indicative first-year tuition fee:  $31,640
  • Indicative total tuition fee:  $31,640

  You can choose to pay your fees upfront per session, or if you’re eligible, you can defer them using a government FEE-HELP loan. This loan helps you cover all or part of your tuition fees. Keep in mind that applications for this loan are specific to each course.

  Additional Costs 

  Your tuition fees do not include:

  • The Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF), which supports student services and activities. If eligible, you can defer this fee using SA-HELP.
  • Textbooks, materials, and other course-related costs.
  • Any applicable payment processing fees (e.g., credit card surcharges).

  • The indicative tuition fees above are based on full-time study (1 year = 48 credit points).
  • Your actual fees depend on the year you enrol, your study load and the subjects you choose. Some subjects fall into different student contribution bands.

  Information for Masters by Research students: Government-funded scholarship places available

  As a recipient of the Australian Government’s Research Training Program (RTP) Fees Offset Scholarship, you do not have to pay tuition fees for up to the maximum period of candidature. However, even with this scholarship, you should expect ongoing costs that aren’t covered, like travel, training, and professional development. These costs can vary for each person, so it’s important to plan accordingly. Additionally, scholarships are available to help with your living expenses.
