What you’ll study

You'll commence your learning with a range of core Property Development subjects. In these, you'll build familiarity with the key elements of this discipline, such as the development process, transactions, valuation and risk analysis.

Then, you'll choose to pursue a sub-major in property valuation or urban planning or opt to broaden your horizons with your choice of options subjects. You'll complete your degree with a group project, where you'll collaborate with others in a group setting to research and plan the development of an urban renewal site.

Course highlights

This program is designed to equip Property Development professionals and those in related fields with the capabilities required to operate at a senior level. You'll get the chance to acquire competencies in investment, planning, valuation, risk analysis and finance, as well as critical skills in communication, collaboration and management.

Industry accreditation

Master of Property Development graduates who complete the Valuation sub-major meet the educational requirements for accreditation as a Certified Practising Valuer (CPV), plus the Certified Property Practitioner (CPP) and the Certified Development Practitioner (CDP) with the Australian Property Institute (API). This course also maps to the Planning and Development pathway, Valuation pathway, and the Land and Resources pathway with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

This course is designed for professionals aiming to excel in the property development sector, including those in valuation, construction, engineering, town planning, and architecture. Choose this course to deepen your understanding of property development and enhance your practical skills, leveraging UTS's strong industry connections and expertise.

What sets this course apart is the integration of real-world projects into the curriculum, such as the development of the Gladesville Hospital site and the Sydney Light Rail Corridor. You'll also benefit from the diverse professional backgrounds of your peers, creating a rich environment for networking and peer-to-peer learning.

You will acquire a broad knowledge of the property development cycle and the ability to apply this in various management roles or client interactions. The course offers flexibility, allowing you to customise your learning with electives in finance, urban design, and more, preparing you for a seamless transition into the Master of Planning if desired.

The UTS Master of Property Development may also be studied as a combined degree with another associated discipline: UTS Master of Property Development and Investment UTS Master of Property Development and Planning UTS Master of Property Development and Project Management
In this course, students benefit from close ties to industry. UTS academics have professional backgrounds and connections, and class projects are often based on real development scenarios. Recent project examples include the Gladesville Hospital site, Lindfield Town Centre and the Sydney Light Rail Corridor.

As many students have extensive industry experience too, there are excellent opportunities for peer-to-peer learning and networking across a range of fields including property development, valuation, construction, engineering, town planning and architecture.
To be eligible for admission to this course, applicants must meet the following criteria.

Applicants must have one of the following:
- Completed Australian bachelor's degree or higher qualification, or overseas equivalent, in Architecture and Building, Engineering, Management and Commerce, Law and legal studies, or Economics and Econometrics
OR
- Completed Australian bachelor's degree or higher qualification, or overseas equivalent, in any field of study AND A minimum of 1 year full-time, or equivalent part-time, relevant professional experience
Applicants who do not meet the criteria above should consider applying for C11271 Graduate Certificate in Property Development.

Supporting documentation to be submitted with the application

For applicants who need to demonstrate work experience:
- Curriculum Vitae AND Statement of service in one of the following formats:
  - A 'Statement of Service' provided by the employer
  - A completed 'UTS statement of service’ signed by the employer
  - A statutory declaration confirming work experience (for Australian Residents only)
  - An official letter from the applicant’s accountant or solicitor on their company letterhead confirming the applicant’s work experience or engagement with the business, duration of operations, and the nature of the business
  - A business certificate of registration in original language and English (e.g. provision of ASIC documentation or ABN or similar documentation for Australian Businesses)

As a postgraduate student, you'll be responsible for covering your own tuition fees.

- Indicative first-year tuition fee: $31,640.00
- Indicative total tuition fee: $48,171.90
You can choose to pay your fees upfront per session, or if you’re eligible, you can defer them using a government FEE-HELP loan. This loan helps you cover all or part of your tuition fees. Keep in mind that applications for this loan are specific to each course.

Additional Costs

Your tuition fees do not include:
- The Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF), which supports student services and activities. If eligible, you can defer this fee using SA-HELP.
- Textbooks, materials, and other course-related costs.
- Any applicable payment processing fees (e.g., credit card surcharges).
