What you’ll study

This program is designed to help you acquire spatial intelligence and excellence in design practice. You'll complete a range of core subjects, building a comprehensive knowledge of Conceptual Design Methods, Future Technologies and Materials, and other fundamental skills used in Interior Architecture.

You'll also have the opportunity to go deeper into areas of particular personal or professional interest through your choice of disciplinary electives, which cover topics from project leadership to climate resilience. You can even pursue special projects, industry-based learning or an international design study tour.

Typical course program

The outline below shows an example program for the Bachelor of Design in Interior Architecture based on a full-time study load. Please note that your exact program may differ based on your unique circumstances, such as your commencement date, subject selections and recognition of prior learning.

  1. First year

    You’ll begin your studies in your first year with a range of core Interior Architecture units, building your foundational knowledge of the discipline. You’ll learn key historical and theoretical perspectives and get hands-on in the studio to establish practical skills.
  2. Second year

    In your second year, you’ll continue your studies, learning about construction materials, technologies and scenographic spaces. You’ll also get to start examining areas of particular interest through your choice of disciplinary electives.
  3. Third year

    Finalising your degree, your last year will see you undertake any remaining core or elective units. You’ll also complete a major project, where you’ll develop and design an interior space in response to a specific brief.

In this course, we aim to give you creative, design and innovative skills, as well as competencies in areas like spatial awareness, conceptual methods and interior technologies.
