Australian Climate Movement Strategy
Liam McLoughlin (PhD candidate)
This project examines the strategies and capacities of three significant social forces fighting for climate action in Australia: environmental groups, trade unions and The Greens. Interviews with activists and material produced by these groups are contextualised using a close study of Antonio Gramsci’s theory of hegemony and the history of Australian environmental and climate movements. The project aims for insights which contribute to movement strategising and public action.
Meet the researcher
Liam teaches environmental communication at UTS and has spent many years teaching academic English, politics and media studies. He is a freelance writer and satirist and wrote an Honours thesis about discourses of climate justice. Liam is passionate about meeting our planet’s daunting challenges with relentless hope.
