He moved to Sydney at 22 to study for a Bachelor degree of Commerce at University of Technology.
UTS taught me about commerce and prepared me for business. UTS gave me the confidence to analyse the opportunity then approach problems by initializing questions and become proactive to find the solution. Above all, to have an open mind and never stop learning from the knowledge and experience of others.
The challenges at UTS he had to overcome included learning English and working three jobs to support himself. After graduation Wang joined a successful Sydney accountancy practice specializing on Chinese clients and international business relationships. He later moved to Hong Kong with his family to build his business opportunities before establishing his own real estate business of SPG in mainland China in the late 90's.
Wang has gained broad international experience in finance, construction, property development and investment. He founded Starwaly Properties Group Ltd, the original holding company for various property projects of the SPG Group, in Australia in February 1999. He is an Australian citizen and has been very resourceful in successfully engaging respected Australian and international consultants in the development of the company's projects.
SPG has a proud record in the successful development of large scale master planned residential communities and mixed use urban projects including schools, office and retail centres. The company's hotel properties include the acclaimed Peninsula on the Bund in Shanghai.
Wang is a hands-on Chairman, proactive in the business and development of SPG which has grown to the now listed corporation employing over 650 staff and a substantial national property portfolio.
He has always benefited from having both the vision of what could be, and the initiative to achieve it. He has a keen inquiring mind and his experience at UTS gave him the confidence to be proactive and never cease to ask the questions to find the solution. Wang was born in modest circumstances and holds the highest respect for the education opportunities that he has benefited from.
In Shanghai he established the SIPO Polytechnic to give students of poorer families' vocational training in nursing, trades and management. He has made further contribution to the education community as a counselor of the Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation and as a member of the international The Nature Conservancy - China Branch. He is also active in international commerce as a standing member of the Shanghai Overseas Exchange Association.
