This information is for students who commenced one of the following courses before 2017:

  • C04106 Master of Arts in Journalism

  • C06037 Graduate Diploma in Journalism.

All of the subjects from your degree program have been phased out and will no longer be offered from 2017.

Your study plan will be updated with substitute subjects from the new Master of Advanced Journalism. You’ll have access to new elective subjects from this course from 2017.

How to move to the new course

Undergraduate students

If you’re an undergraduate final year Journalism student and you wish to apply for either C04321 Master of Advanced Journalism or C06104 Graduate Diploma in Advanced Journalism you won’t need to submit a portfolio.

Postgraduate students

If you’re currently enrolled in the C06037 Graduate Diploma in Journalism or C10058 Graduate Certificate in Journalism, you can submit an Internal Course Transfer Application (ICT) to either C04321 Master of Advanced Journalism or C06104 Graduate Diploma in Advanced Journalism.

Note: You don’t need to submit a personal statement, CV or examples of your professional work as part of the ICT process.

If you meet the academic requirements of your requested course, you’ll receive an offer. Once you start your new course, you’ll receive advanced standing for all the subjects you’ve undertaken in your current course. 

The core subject 57011 Research and Reporting for Journalism does not have an equivalent in the new courses. Instead, it will be credited as an Elective in either C04321 Master of Advanced Journalism or C06104 Graduate Diploma in Advanced Journalism.

If you transfer into the C04321 Master of Advanced Journalism or C06104 Graduate Diploma in Advanced Journalism, you’ll be required to undertake 57083 Advanced Journalism.

Do I have to move to the new course?

No. You can remain in your current course. The subjects that were available when you first started your course will no longer be on offer – instead, they will have been replaced by an equivalent subject from the new course. Your study plan will be updated with the equivalent subjects. Please review the subject substitution list for more detail.

What do I do if I want to move to the new course?

If you’re currently studying the C06037 Graduate Diploma in Journalism or C10058 Graduate Certificate in Journalism, you can submit an Internal Course Transfer Application to either C04321 Master of Advanced Journalism or C06104 Graduate Diploma in Advanced Journalism for 2017.

If you meet the academic requirements you can be made an offer to either C04321 Master of Advanced Journalism or C06104 Graduate Diploma in Advanced Journalism. You will not need to submit a Personal Statement, CV or example of your professional work.
