Homestays
Homestay is a form of tourism and/or study abroad program that allows the visitor to rent a room from a local family to better learn the local lifestyle as well as improve their language ability. It offers students a unique experience of the Australian way of life and a great way to improve their English language skills.
Homestay scenarios can range from a complete family experience to a very basic room rental. Typically the student would be provided breakfast and dinner seven days a week, with a light lunch included on weekends. These meals would be prepared and served by the host family. In some cases, students can also be offered a self-catered meal option in which they are given access to kitchen and cooking facilities and would purchase their own ingredients to prepare meals.
There are a number of homestay organisations offering homestay arrangements. The provider oversees the arrangement, provides support to both students and hosts, and can also provide guardianship to those students under the age of 18.
