What you’ll study

This course aims to provide you with the necessary skills to acquire initial employment in the human movement field, as well as the analytical skills necessary for critical appraisal of developments in the field.

You must complete at least 144 credit points over 24 subjects. You choose four electives or a major, appropriate to your chosen career, to complement the core subjects in the degree.

Admissions information

The Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science meets the demand for professionals able to provide physical activity services to all sectors of the community. The course provides students with a strong understanding of the processes and mechanisms underlying sport and exercise science, and with the knowledge and skills necessary to manage and plan sport and exercise activities in health, exercise science, sport, event and exercise therapy contexts.

Both the Exercise Science and Exercise Therapy major in the Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science degree are accredited with Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA). Completion of these majors enables Exercise Science accreditation (AES) and focuses on the assessment, prescription and delivery of exercise to apparently healthy people. The Exercise Science or Exercise Therapy major also enables students to apply for the Master of Clinical Exercise Physiology and obtain accreditation as a Clinical Exercise Physiologist (EP), the Master of High Performance Sport, or the Master of Physiotherapy, all of which are available at UTS.
The course provides students with a strong understanding of the processes and mechanisms underlying sport and exercise science, and with the knowledge and skills necessary to manage and plan sport and exercise activities in health, exercise science, sport, event and exercise therapy contexts. Both the Exercise Science and Exercise Therapy major in the Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science degree are accredited with Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA). Completion of these majors enables Exercise Science accreditation and focuses on the assessment, prescription and delivery of exercise to apparently healthy people.

Students who complete the Exercise Therapy major (MAJ06234) (not available to international students) are guaranteed entry to the UTS Master of Physiotherapy (C04306) subject to maintaining a credit average (GPA of 5.0 and above) and a successful internal interview. The Master of Physiotherapy leads to eligibility for registration as a physiotherapist in Australia.
Your Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) is a score between 0.00 and 99.95. It shows you how you rank compared to all the students in your year group in New South Wales. A selection rank combines your ATAR with any other adjustment points that make up your overall university entrance score. Your selection rank may differ from university to university, depending on the adjustment points granted to you at each institution.

If you find yourself rapt by the world of innovation – you can pair your core degree with a Diploma in Innovation, graduating with two qualifications in the same timeframe.

In both instances, you’ll work on a real-world challenge presented by an industry partner organisation – partners who often create career pathways for our graduates.

Admission requirements
Applicants must have completed an Australian Year 12 qualification, Australian Qualifications Framework Diploma, or equivalent Australian or overseas qualification at the required level.
Students must apply through UAC to enrol in the course or specifically in the Exercise Therapy major (MAJ06234) (different UAC codes apply).

The Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science (Exercise Therapy major) is NOT offered to non-recent school leaver applicants.
The English proficiency requirement for international students or local applicants with international qualifications is: IELTS Academic: 6.5 overall with a writing score of 6.0; or TOEFL iBT: 79-93 overall with a writing score of 21; or AE5: Pass; or PTE: 58-64 with a writing score of 50; or C1A/C2P: 176-184 with a writing score of 169.

International students
Visa requirement: To obtain a student visa to study in Australia, international students must enrol full time and on campus. Australian student visa regulations also require international students studying on student visas to complete the course within the standard full-time duration. Students can extend their courses only in exceptional circumstances.
