  The Bachelor of Information Technology Bachelor of Laws (Honours) is designed to produce legal professionals with specialised IT knowledge, ready to integrate into legal environments as IT experts.

  Please note that this is an exit-only course. There is no direct admission to it. Current UTS students who meet the criteria for honours may be able to submit an Internal Course Transfer (Graduating) application to exit with this course. Check with the UTS Student Centre.

  The law segment offers a foundation in Australian legal practice, while the IT component provides a solid grounding in computing, allowing for an IT major specialisation.

  The honours component in law comprises two research subjects, enabling you to develop advanced research, critical analysis and communication skills that can be used in further higher degree research such as Master of Laws or PhD.

  The IT curriculum is practice-oriented, blending theory with practical skills in business analysis, problem-solving, and communication.

  Graduates are equipped for roles such as legal counsel in IT firms, policy advisers, or IT specialists in legal settings, with the option to pursue advanced research.

  The information technology component adopts a practice-based approach to IT education and the course content is a mix of theory and practice. As well as gaining strong technical skills in IT, students gain skills in business analysis, problem-solving, teamwork and communication.

  Students have the opportunity to engage in deeper study of the law by studying 76090 Research Methodology and undertaking 76040 Research Thesis. This course can be a pathway to higher degree research programs.

  Your Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) is a score between 0.00 and 99.95. It shows you how you rank compared to all the students in your year group in New South Wales. A selection rank combines your ATAR with any other adjustment points that make up your overall university entrance score. Your selection rank may differ from university to university, depending on the adjustment points granted to you at each institution.

• Course duration arrow_forward_ios

  The course duration is five years of full-time study. The law component requires attendance of 12–15 hours of lectures a week and timetable constraints require attendance at daytime and evening classes. The IT component normally requires around 12 hours attendance of lectures and seminars a week and attendance at some evening classes may be required. The Diploma in Information Technology Professional Practice (C20056) includes at least nine months of paid work experience in the IT industry.

  2025 Indicative tuition fees for government-supported domestic students

  All offers for domestic undergraduate students are for Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP).This means the Australian Government contributes to your education costs, and you pay the remaining tuition fees, known as the student contribution. If eligible, you can defer payment through HECS-HELP, or you can choose to pay your fees upfront each session.

• Inherent requirements arrow_forward_ios

  Inherent requirements are academic and non-academic requirements that are essential for successfully completing a course at UTS. You can find the inherent requirements for your course via the inherent requirements directory.

• Assumed knowledge arrow_forward_ios

  HSC or equivalent mathematics; and any two units of English.

  Mathematics Extension 1 and English Advanced are recommended.

• Professional recognition arrow_forward_ios

  This course satisfies the requirements for admission to the Supreme Court of NSW as a lawyer, provided students complete a practical legal training program, such as the Graduate Certificate in Professional Legal Practice (C11232).

  The IT component qualifies for professional-level membership of the Australian Computer Society.

• Recognition of prior learning arrow_forward_ios

  Recognition of prior learning is not normally granted in this course for study completed at a private college, except where UTS has an external articulation agreement with the college.
