  This course is tailored for students on the International Honours pathway in Fashion and Textiles with International Studies, aiming to become industry innovators. Choose this course to immerse yourself in a year of study abroad, conducting research and honing language skills in your chosen country. Stand out with a distinctive blend of practical design experience and international cultural insight.

  You will gain advanced design and textile knowledge, coupled with research expertise and a global perspective. Learn through hands-on workshops, real-world projects with leading brands, and guidance from industry experts. Develop vital communication and teamwork abilities, preparing you to articulate and market your designs effectively.

  Teaching combines studio practice with theoretical study, fostering your individual design voice within a global context. Progress from mastering design principles to specialising in areas like material innovation and digital design. Graduates emerge as sought-after professionals, ready to make their mark in international fashion hubs.

  Please note, this is an exit-only course. There is no direct admission to it. Current UTS students may be able to submit an Internal Course Transfer (Graduating) application to exit with this course. See the Course transfer page for further details.

  While UTS recognises that a commercial framework is important, students are encouraged to become industry leaders through a focus on innovation, experimentation, individual expression and the future of fashion. They have full access to world-class textile and fashion workshops, working under the close supervision of expert staff. This experimental spirit is balanced by close industry ties. Students get the opportunity to work on real-world projects with brands such as Jets Swimwear, Think Positive, Australian Wool Innovation, Calcoup Knitwear and Swarovski.

  UTS also understands that the fashion industry is as much about people as it is about garments: using studios and interdisciplinary subjects, students gain the communication and teamwork skills to develop, articulate and sell their creations to peers and industry. Graduates are recognised globally and many have gone on to work or study overseas, including fashion capitals London, New York, Tokyo and Milan. Leading international designers employing UTS graduates include Alexander McQueen, Kenzo, Abercrombie and Fitch, and Helmut Lang.

  The international experience of the international studies component further enhances career prospects.

  Your Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) is a score between 0.00 and 99.95. It shows you how you rank compared to all the students in your year group in New South Wales. A selection rank combines your ATAR with any other adjustment points that make up your overall university entrance score. Your selection rank may differ from university to university, depending on the adjustment points granted to you at each institution.

  All you need to do is choose the Elective that inspires you the most.

  Transdisciplinary Electives integrate knowledge from multiple disciplines, allowing you to approach complex problems from a range of perspectives.

  By combining methods and insights from various disciplines, transdisciplinary learning often leads to breakthrough ideas and creative innovations that may not be possible within the confines of a single discipline.

  If you find yourself rapt by the world of innovation – you can pair your core degree with a Diploma in Innovation, graduating with two qualifications in the same timeframe. 

  In both instances, you’ll work on a real-world challenge presented by an industry partner organisation – partners who often create career pathways for our graduates.

  The course is offered on a five-year, full-time or part-time equivalent basis. Students spend two sessions of study at a university or other higher education institution in the country of their major.

  2025 Indicative tuition fees for government-supported domestic students

  All offers for domestic undergraduate students are for Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP).This means the Australian Government contributes to your education costs, and you pay the remaining tuition fees, known as the student contribution. If eligible, you can defer payment through HECS-HELP, or you can choose to pay your fees upfront each session.

  There are no prior language requirements for the international studies program. During their first year of study students complete a language survey to ensure they commence their language and culture study at the appropriate level.
