Information for STEM professionals

This 8-week (term-long), in-class program integrates project-based learning activities into the curriculum with teachers and continues the learning with families at home. STEM professionals are invited to visit our partner schools, commencing in February.

The role of STEM professionals

  • A project mentor - Students will be designing, developing and prototyping solutions to defined problems relevant to their science units of work. STEM professionals can provide valuable guidance along with UTS students to keep students on the right track and inspire curiosity.
  • A knowledge bank - Knowledge of your field, industry and business activity can help to bring STEM to life in the classroom. You could share with students how technology is changing the way you work, or how scientific discovery is helping people and the environment. 
  • A role model - What does a STEM professional look like? We know there is not just one type of STEM professional. You can be a role model for students by sharing your authentic self and giving them an opportunity to create their own identity as a STEM professional.

All volunteers are required to have a volunteer Working with Children Check. This check is free and valid for 5 years. How to get your check:

  • Apply for your check online (choose Volunteer category)
  • Visit a NSW Service office with your application number and photo ID to verify
  • You will receive your WWC number within a few weeks
