Contribute to classroom teaching
Deliver guest lectures
Guest lectures are generally a 60 to 90-minute intervention in front of students. You are invited by the course lecturer to provide insights on the course subject based on your practical experience, helping students grasp the relevance of their learning and the challenges of applying it in industry.
We want all of our 400+ subjects to benefit from guest lecturers.

Tutor groups of students on live project-based learning subjects (Experiential Learning)
Group tutoring for Experiential Learning subjects involves guiding and supporting a team of four to six MBA students during a 12-week live industry project, giving the students hands-on learning. Tutoring involves weekly 90-minute classes and ad-hoc support to students (this activity is remunerated by UTS).
Co-deliver executive education with academics
Executive Education co-delivery involves collaborating with our faculty members to offer short-courses (half-day to five days) to working professionals through open programs or customised corporate programs. This activity enables you to share your practical expertise with audiences in the context of the discipline provided by academics (this activity is remunerated by UTS). You can either volunteer to co-deliver existing programs, or put forward new programs that you are interested in delivering based on your expertise.
Become a casual academic

Advise or mentor students
Mentor a student one-on-one
If you are interested in mentoring, we can match you with a student through our mentoring program. Your role is to mentor students as they embark on their professional career and encourage opportunistic, career-building choices. Based on your experience, you’ll be able to tell them a little about your day-to-day responsibilities, share interview advice and answer any common career-related questions they may have.
The aim of mentoring is to help students be more confident, motivated and encouraged to explore opportunities as they navigate their career paths.
Join our judging panel for student competitions on entrepreneurship
Want the hard task of picking winners amongst our pool of talented students? Sit on a judging panel for our flagship entrepreneurship competitions with fellow high-profile judges. Judging requires you to contribute a full day to listening to competitors, providing feedback and selecting winners.
Judging panel opportunities available include:
- UTS Venture Day
Hear MBA of entrepreneurship students and selected start-up founders pitch their small business idea. - IBISWorld 3P competition
Undergraduate and postgraduate students come together to pitch new, innovative product/idea or service associated with the 3P (People, Planet, Profit), or other competitions that we run in the faculty.
Join an Advisory Board for students developing client solutions on experiential learning subjects
As part of their studies, our Executive MBA, Advanced MBA and MBA of entrepreneurship students undertake an Experiential Learning subject where they solve a current industry challenge through applying their learning. Join a panel of industry professionals to provide valuable feedback to teams of four to six students as they present their progress on their respective project. Challenging their work during these advisory boards helps students learn by doing, and ultimately deliver better outcomes on their project. These advisory boards generally occur over two evenings and last three hours each.

Want a platform to share some interesting career/business anecdotes? Join our hosts David Brown and Nicole Sutton to discuss your domain of expertise. This podcast goes beyond the buzzwords, and takes cutting-edge research and real-world examples, to explore the complexities of a current business story.
Contribute and provide insights to researchers in your domain of expertise
Sharing your insights with researchers based on your industry experience can help identify new areas of enquiry, or help academics refine their current research. This may involve just a conversation with some of our faculty members and can develop into much more if you find common areas of interest.
Publish or co-publish research through UTS
Publishing research through UTS can be a way to contribute, whether independently or with our faculty members. This option is more relevant if you currently hold a research degree. Again this will involve some initial conversations with our researchers to explore a world of possibilities!

If you know government or industry leaders, connecting them with our Dean enables them to give feedback on what their needs are. This can then guide UTS to better adapt to what society needs from a leading university such as ours, and your contacts can benefit from the new knowledge UTS creates.
