Recognition of prior learning
If you have previously studied at a recognised tertiary institution, you may be considered for recognition of prior learning. Recognition of prior learning may also have been referred to as:
- Credit recognition, or
- Advanced standing
Postgraduate
Recognition of prior learning is granted on the basis of the successful completion of equivalent subjects from recent postgraduate studies.
The maximum number of subject exemptions that can be granted for a Faculty of Health Masters degree is eight (48 credit points).

What credit can I apply for?
Postgraduate courses:
- Previously completed postgraduate subjects: These may be credited as unspecified credit towards your elective choices or as specific subjects if the subject completed matches 80% of the content of the subject for which credit is sought.
Clinical Accreditation Programs (CAPs)
- Find out more about local health district and hospital-run clinical accreditation programs that can be counted towards your postgraduate degree at UTS.
Supporting documents
You will need to include supporting documents with your application:
- An official original transcript or certified copy of your relevant subject results
- Relevant subject outlines
Subjects need to have been completed within 5 years or currency of knowledge and skills must be demonstrated.

The best time to apply for credit recognition is when you apply for the course you wish to study.

Undergraduate
Recognition of prior learning is granted on the basis of the successful completion of equivalent subjects from recent tertiary studies.

Bachelor of Nursing
- The Bachelor of Nursing is a qualification leading to registration and credit recognition rules are determined by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
- Each subject completed must match 80% of the content of the subject for which credit is sought
- Comprehensive subject outlines and certified transcripts must be supplied in full and in person to the UTS Student Centre in Building 10
Accelerated Bachelor of Nursing – block credit
- Eligible enrolled nurses may receive block credit for the Bachelor of Nursing and be admitted to the two-year Bachelor of Nursing (Accelerated) program
- Entry is not guaranteed
