Graduate Diploma in Property Development

Students who do not meet the admission requirement prerequisites below are encouraged to apply for the Graduate Certificate in Property Development, and progress to the Graduate Diploma in Property Development.
This course is tailored for professionals in architecture, engineering, construction, valuation, planning, business, or finance seeking to deepen their understanding of property development. What sets this course apart is its blend of theory and practice, informed by strong industry links and real-world project work. You'll learn from academics with professional industry experience and engage in projects mirroring actual development scenarios.
You will acquire advanced knowledge of the property development process, including market dynamics, political, legal, and managerial systems, as well as practical skills for managing property assets and development proposals.
Teaching methods are interactive and collaborative, leveraging the extensive experience of your peers for enriched learning. Expect a mix of lectures, real-life case studies, and project-based learning to equip you with the expertise for career advancement or transition.
This is an exit-only course. There is no direct admission to it. Current UTS students may be able to submit an Internal Course Transfer (Graduating) application to exit with this course. See the Course transfer page for further details.
Students benefit from close ties to industry. UTS academics have professional backgrounds and connections, and class projects are often based on real development scenarios. Recent project examples include the Gladesville Hospital site, Lindfield Town Centre and the Sydney Light Rail Corridor.
As many students have extensive industry experience too, there are excellent opportunities for peer-to-peer learning and networking across a range of fields including property development, valuation, construction, engineering, town planning and architecture.

Course aims
This course is focused on development and delivered with a practical focus. It provides a thorough and advanced grounding in all aspects of the property development process, markets and institutions, including the political, managerial, legal and physical systems which contribute to the effective management and development of property assets, property investment portfolios and development proposals. It is designed to provide valuers and other property practitioners with opportunities to enhance their qualifications and expertise, and provide professionals from other fields with an understanding of property development and investment issues and techniques.

The degree provides property-related professionals such as architects, engineers, construction managers, valuers, planners and business or finance professionals the opportunity to broaden their knowledge and qualifications and obtain a more holistic understanding of property development and related processes. This enables graduates to expand their careers or move outside of their original professional area to higher or broader roles within the property development industry and/or offer new services to clients.

Course duration
The course duration is one year of full-time or two years of part-time study.
All subjects are offered in intensive blocks. The attendance pattern for each subject is generally two separate two-and-a-half-day blocks, usually held over a Thursday evening, Friday and Saturday.

To be eligible for admission to this course, applicants must meet the following criteria.
Applicants must have the following:
- Completed Australian bachelor's degree or higher qualification, or overseas equivalent
Applicants who do not meet the criteria above should consider applying for C11271 Graduate Certificate in Property Development.
The English proficiency requirement for international students or local applicants with international qualifications is: IELTS Academic: 6.5 overall with a writing score of 6.0; or TOEFL iBT: 79-93 overall with a writing score of 21; or AE5: Pass; or PTE: 58-64 with a writing score of 50; or C1A/C2P: 176-184 with a writing score of 169.

International studentsVisa requirement: To obtain a student visa to study in Australia, international students must enrol full time and on campus. Australian student visa regulations also require international students studying on student visas to complete the course within the standard full-time duration. Students can extend their courses only in exceptional circumstances.
