At the Network Security Lab, we’re developing ever-more efficient and secure ways to manage and share big data.

Fish provenance and quality tracking system
Our researchers are working with Sydney Fish Market and Food Agility CRC to build a Blockchain-enabled Fish Provenance and Quality Tracking System incorporating a wide range of technologies. This project will be delivered in three phases: the development of 5G/IoT technologies to enable real-time tracking of fish catch origin and quality information throughout the supply chain; integration into a Fish Provenance and Quality Tracking System including electronic nose and image processing capabilities with Blockchain-powered tracking and a data-sharing app; and system integration and trial across seafood traders and fishers in the bustling Sydney Fish Market. The technology has significant potential to positively impact quality and safety for consumers.
Promoting Wagyu beef traceability between Japan and Australia
Supported by the Australia-Japan Foundation, this project promotes the use of IoT and Blockchain-enabled technologies in achieving trusted provenance, traceability and quality tracking. Focusing on safeguards information in Wagyu beef export across the entire supply chain between Japan, Australia and globally, the project is a fundamental step in strengthening trade links between the two countries.
Beef export supply chain tracking: a pilot trial
Food fraud and quality breaches pose a serious threat to Australian beef exports, with current technologies ill-equipped to tackle the challenge. In this project, we are implementing UTS-developed IoT and Blockchain technologies for secure and trusted real time tracking, monitoring and traceability technologies in JOC Australia’s Wagyu beef supply chain to conduct shipment trials. Our researchers are aiming to uncover the potential of these technologies to solve problems of beef substitute and quality breach and their value for beef producers, exporters, their customers and consumers. A comprehensive report detailing cost/benefit analysis and recommendations for further development will also be delivered.
