UTS is committed to creating a working environment that is culturally inclusive and affirming for Indigenous people and encourages all of the UTS community to participate by taking a proactive approach to Indigenous employment.
Our Commitment
UTS is an Australian world-leading University when it comes to supporting the recruitment and retention of Indigenous staff and will continue to achieve this through the UTS Indigenous Policy and the Wingara Indigenous Employment Strategy 2019-2023.
The Wingara Indigenous Employment Strategy (Wingara Strategy) will ensure UTS has the capability to achieve its high-level and ambitious strategic objective to position itself as a world-leading university in relation to Indigenous education, research and employment by 2023.
UTS has set the Indigenous employment target at 3 per cent (3%), to be achieved by 2023.
All UTS Faculties, Departments and Divisions will identify positions that can be filled by an Indigenous candidate at the senior leadership level; academic; research and the professional levels. By 2023 all UTS Faculties, Departments and Divisions will have taken steps to employ Indigenous people.
This Strategy builds on the success of previous strategies to increase Indigenous staff numbers through new and exciting programs, which will continue and expand on general employment programs. These programs also include Indigenous cadetships and internships that aim to facilitate opportunities for Indigenous students to be employed, which allows UTS to grow-our-own Indigenous staff numbers and to increase the employment platforms across the university.
The Wingara Indigenous Employment Strategy 2019-2023 introduces the new employment and career development programs and pathways that will assist in increasing the Indigenous employment levels across all areas of UTS (internal) and to also meet industry needs (external).
