You don’t need to know this but some Industry Partners find it helpful to understand the milestones for students in IIP, and how their work is assessed by UTS.
Assessments
In addition to working on the Industry Innovation Project with Industry Partners, students submit three university assessments throughout the semester. These assessments supplement and guide their learnings gained from the project.
Assessment 1: Mid-semester
Innovation Discovery Journey Checkpoint.
Assessment 1 requires students to arrange a mid-project check-in with Industry Partners to discuss plans for achieving proof-of-concept by the end of the project. Students prepare material for the check-in that will cover:
- Methodology developed for the project (considering the exploratory, generative, experimental, adaptive and analytical dimensions) and the progress of this methodology.
- How they have reframed the project brief to bring original and creative insights to the complex challenge.
- Details of an initiative, product or service they will seek to develop by the end of the project.
Teams will submit commentary on any discussion, feedback and project planning that takes place at the check-in, in a format of their choosing.
Assessment 2: End of project
Industry Innovation Report.
Assessment 2 is the delivery of the final project through a presentation and a report. Groups present to Industry Partners and UTS staff in the final week of the IIP journey, and submit a report (or equivalent format) to partners.
The aim of the final presentation and report is to:
- Present the team's idea, strategy or project for an initiative, product or service.
- Demonstrate the value of their innovation to key stakeholders.
- Present recommendations for the Industry Partner to adopt.
- Make a case for the broader potential of their recommendations.
Additionally, students individually submit a ‘journey map for future self’, providing advice on how to approach a similar project in the future. This piece of the assessment is not presented to the Industry Partner.
Assessment 3: Throughout
Contribution to Cohort.
Assessment 3 asks students to carry out or take part in an initiative that is intended to offer a meaningful contribution to the BCII student community. This assessment is not submitted to Industry Partners, students work on it independently in conjunction with completing the IIP.
Examples of cohort contributions include: reading groups, workshops, interactive installation, panel discussions.
